I'm unfamiliar with dealing with these type of decisions (except for having a mortgage) but can't think of any areas that were not done well.
Considering transferring out of a final salary pension scheme to allow earlier retirement.
Took me clearly through the options following all the relevant guidance documentation, was independent and didn't seek to influence my decision. Roger pointed out that in many situations the final salary pension was the best option. For my particular circumstance (earlier retirement plus the backup of another smaller fixed pension) I decided to transfer out into a drawdown stocks and shares pension, Roger arranged the product and made the transfer simple. We have regular meetings where we review the investment strategy in relation to risk and Roger has produced cashflow forecasts covering retirement income/expenditure.
Very much so, I'm happy with the projected returns compared to the final salary pension and that I am in control of my own pension, and accept the risks associated with the stock market where the returns cannot be guaranteed , unlike the final salary scheme.
Nothing. I cannot speak highly enough the quality of advice and service I have received from Roger.
As I approached retirement in 2018 I wanted some advice on the various pensions I held and, in particular, a reasonably sized fund I considered I did not need to access in the short term.
On providing Roger with an indication of our immediate and anticipated future income requirements he assessed my various pensions and other savings. This not only supported the view that I would probably not need to access the fund for up to 10 years but there were benefits in making further contributions prior to my retirement date. Based upon his advice he has since handled moving the fund to an alternative provider where I am invested in 10 funds which meet my risk requirements. We continually monitor the portfolio and where it is felt individual funds are under-performing Roger has advised on alternatives and managed the changes we agree should be made. In addition to this my wife and I have an annual review with him where his analysis of past performance and advice going forward is explained with great clarity.
Bearing in mind the effect on markets of Brexit and then Covid, it has undoubtedly been a turbulent 3 years since Roger first starting advising me. Having said that I was always looking at a 10 year plan and Roger, with the support of his colleagues at Aspirations, was very good at keeping in contact through the low points and setting out their thoughts on market trends and potential for recovery. During the last 12 months my fund has performed extremely well to the point that the current value exceeds the growth target I was hoping to achieve at this point.
Nothing in my opinion.
I retired with a company pension that I wanted to transfer to a draw down pension.
Roger transferred the funds to a suitable personal pension advisor and recommended an investment strategy that suited my requirement.
Yes, very much so.
There is nothing I required to be better.
My salary had increased and I understood I would be impacted by the ‘income tax trap’ and so wish to do what I could to mitigate this. I therefore looked for a Pension advisor.
Helped me understand my tax situation, how my pension operated and the options available for me to make the most of the various allowances.
Yes, very much so.
Roger is an expert in the pensions industry and I am very happy with the level of service. Roger is responsive and helpful.
I was within 5 years of a potential retirement date and needed to organise my finances accordingly.
Roger has advised me consistently across this period .. helping to move my work pension into a SIPP and create a clear manageable plan and forecast for retirement.
Yes my pension fund has grown consistently through the period.
